“IT: Checklist and digital pen to increase safety in operating rooms in Forlì hospital.” (2010). ePractice.EU. Retrieved from: http://www.epractice.eu/en/news/346052.
[The] Morgagni-Pierantoni Hospital in Forlì, Emilia Romagna (Northeast of Italy), has been among the first ones in the country to test the use of surgical checklists… The checklist in the operating room aims to make sure that all the planned safety procedures have been respected and followed before, during and after the surgical interventions. More specifically, at each of the aforementioned stages the nurse in charge asks the surgical staff various predefined questions, checking the appropriate boxes based on the answers she receives. By improving communication between the actors, the system thus intends to bring the risk of potential mistakes as close as possible to zero.
